Service projects are a crucial part of the Scouting experience and are effective ways for Scouts to demonstrate "participating citizenship" in the local community. The importance of serving the community through service projects is established early in Scouting, is progressively expanded, and eventually culminates in a significant Eagle Scout service project requiring substantial planning, organization and focus on lasting change. Other periodic service projects are part of regular Troop activities for Scouts and serve as examples of living in accordance with the core values of Scouting.
